Reach / Retreat

Brief: “Figure study of a pose that is dynamic and emotional.”

Three GPT-generated studies. VTL-guided directions and visual readings by the assistant. No local native drawing engine or automated critic runner was used. Study 03 is selected as a direction for continuation, not declared finished.

The body changes its mind.

“Dynamic” could invite a stock athletic pose; “emotional” could invite an anguished face. This reading tests opposed bodily impulses instead. The first revision changes weight but keeps the exercise silhouette. The alternative changes the entire relation of figure, support and empty space.

Opening / study-01

Grounded forward reach. The cloth-gripping hand introduces hesitation, but the body reads as advancing. Fairly uniform anatomical modeling makes omission secondary.

Preserve as initial proposal.

Delta / study-02

Pelvis moved back and down, front heel brakes and the rear leg bears the crouch. The requested weight change is visible, but the extended leg and arm still produce the recognizable silhouette of an exercise or stretch. The emotional contradiction remains weak.

Do not select as working direction; preserve the attempted structural correction.

Omega / alternative construction / study-03

The figure occupies the right side. Folded legs and grounded hand form a compact support while the other arm reaches left into empty paper. The head faces right, not back toward the reaching hand as requested. Despite that noncompliance, head and hand diverge visibly and give the figure a stronger divided intention. Surface modeling and clothing remain more uniformly finished than requested; the long reaching arm is still rather explicit.

Select composition for continuation, not as finished work or anatomically certified drawing.

What remains open

The third image gives the strongest divided intention in this set. Its modeled surface is still too consistent for the intended hierarchy of assertion and omission. Head direction did not follow the request; the actual result is evaluated on what appeared, not credited for compliance it did not achieve.

The next artistic question is whether the reaching arm can become less declarative while the low bodily support stays convincing. No numeric emotional or beauty score is being claimed.
