Cup and Apples
What holds them together when they stop being a group?

A moody chiaroscuro charcoal drawing of a ceramic teacup and apples on paper, dramatic side-lighting casting shadows, raw charcoal marks, rendered in a loose, melancholic academic style.
Start with the words. Then look.
The source set repeatedly groups the objects into a compact upright arrangement. That is useful evidence about these twelve images, not a universal claim about a generator. The experiment preserves the subject and material while testing shadow, interval and proximity.
moody chiaroscuro
Hypothesis: Uniform dark vignette can substitute for a relationship.
Let a shared cast shadow carry the composition; protect readable middle values.
ceramic teacup and apples
Hypothesis: Compact triangular product display with every object equally legible.
Test separation, overlap and frame pressure.
dramatic side-lighting
Hypothesis: A spotlight can stage objects separately.
Check shared ground and compatible cast-shadow direction.
raw charcoal marks
Hypothesis: Decorative scratches added to a polished rendering.
Marks differ between ceramic, fruit and ground; no uniform hatch patches.
loose, melancholic academic style
Hypothesis: Academic finish plus rough contour may stand in for felt quiet.
Test melancholy through interval or withheld edges, without adding symbolic props.
A connects the shadows. B separates the objects. C uses crop and proximity. B earns continuation, but its equal weights need changing. Our local native instrument draws a small distant cup and nearer apples as a spatial instruction. The generator then reconstructs the objects.

D establishes depth. E removes too much ground; F repeats texture. Both are rejected. G returns to the native guide and source S05 with separate roles for composition and material. H corrects the shared light. This is a branching process, not a sequence in which every later image is better.
Every generated branch

Shared shadow
The shadow connects the bases and partly swallows the cup foot. But the tall rear apple rebuilds a pyramid, the right apple stays explicit, and the foreground reads as four displayed objects. Ground is stronger than the desired withholding.
Inputs: S03 · reference-led generation

The interval
The cup and apples separate, opening quiet paper. Their nearly equal heights and similar finish create opposing islands; the interval is present but not yet strongly spatial. Test unequal depth and scale.
Inputs: S05 · reference-led generation

At the edge
The cropped near apple gives proximity. The cup is still fairly large and the rear apple still prominent. Added background haze and a tight triangle substitute density for the quieter relational question. Not selected merely for being more dramatic.
Inputs: S11 · reference-led generation

Unequal distance
Cup shrinks and moves back; nearer fruit gains weight. The interval now reads in depth. Repeated scumbled ground marks overstate the surface; all objects remain more finished than intended. The guide influenced broad placement, not exact pixel geometry.

Ground cleared
Clearing the ground improves quiet locally but leaves two isolated object islands. The fruit keeps fine mottled rendering. Revert to D: omission alone has not improved the relationship.

Broad-mark request
Ground connection returns, but the marks become conspicuous repeated bands and curling texture persists. A second wording change against the same raster has not produced materially broad construction. Switch inputs instead of repeating this edit.

Reconstruction
Angular broad planes and searching edges recover the raw drawing language. The native guide carries the distant cup/near fruit arrangement. Light flips toward upper right on cup and near apple, while the rear apple retains a conflicting dark right side. Accept the new direction but repair shared lighting.
Inputs: native-guide, S05 · new synthesis using separate spatial/material references

One light, unequal attention
Rear apple now has a light upper-right shoulder and darker lower-left mass; leftward ground shadows support a common high side light. Cup remains quieter and more distant, fruit more assertive, and sparse ground drags leave paper open. Rear fruit is more complete than requested and cup geometry stays angular; these do not presently defeat an expressive study. Fine texture remains in passages: improved hierarchy is not a claim of eliminating generator texture.

Why stop here?
Do the separated objects belong to one space?
Cup sits higher and smaller, apples lower and larger. Contact marks and faint horizontal ground relate them. Some separation remains and is intentional; E demonstrates where loss of connection went too far.
Does the light turn the forms coherently?
H corrects the obvious rear-apple conflict in G. Broad right-facing lights and leftward cast shadows agree sufficiently for a loose study, not a photometric reconstruction.
Do the marks serve different roles?
Fruit uses broad facets and a loaded base, ceramic a quiet plane and partial rim, ground broken sparse drags. Some fine texture survives. Another finish pass risks returning to D/F uniformity.
The selected image sustains the intended quiet distance and raw construction. No additional intervention currently has a clearly supported gain that outweighs losing the open plane structure. This is a reversible artistic judgment, not budget exhaustion, numerical proof, or finality for all possible briefs.
