Painting Notebook Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026 · Russell Glen Parrish
Your notebook is processed on your device. Painting Notebook requires no account and includes no advertising, tracking, or app-operated analytics.
Overview and data collection
Painting Notebook helps you explore references, sketches, value and colour studies, drawings, painting-session photographs, and notes. These tools work locally. The app does not send your images, notes, or usage activity to a developer-operated server, and does not sell your personal information. No generative-image service or API key is used to make studies.
Camera and photo access
You choose which images to import through the system picker. Camera access is requested when you choose to photograph a painting session. Imported and captured images are used for your notebook and its editing and study tools. Capturing a session does not automatically save it to your photo library.
You can revoke camera or other permissions granted to Painting Notebook in your device’s Settings. You can continue using references and projects already saved in your notebook.
Local storage, retention, and backups
Your projects and settings are stored locally until you delete them or remove the app. The installed iPhone app also keeps a recovery copy in its private storage. Depending on your device settings, Apple may include app data in a device backup. The browser version stores its notebook in that browser’s local storage; clearing website data can remove it.
Keep an exported backup of work you want to preserve. Local storage and the app’s recovery copy are not an independent cloud backup service.
Sharing and exporting
When you export an image, project, or notebook, you choose where the copy goes. On iPhone, the app uses the iOS share sheet. Files saved to Files, iCloud Drive, another app, or a recipient are subject to that destination’s settings and privacy practices. Painting Notebook does not automatically share your work. Temporary export files may remain in the app’s cache until removed by iOS or by deleting the app.
Deleting your work
Deleting a project removes its working record and its private recovery copy from the app. Exported and shared copies remain wherever you saved them; delete those separately if desired. Deleting the app removes its local notebook. Device backups are managed separately through Apple’s settings. We cannot retrieve or remotely delete a notebook stored only on your device.
Apple services and the website
App Store distribution, TestFlight, device backups, and device diagnostics are managed by Apple under its own policies and your settings. Painting Notebook does not include third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking services.
This support website is hosted by Netlify. Visiting a webpage sends ordinary web requests to the hosting provider, which may process technical connection information such as your IP address for delivery and security. This is separate from image processing in the installed app. See Netlify’s privacy policy and Apple’s privacy policy for their practices.
Support correspondence
If you email support, the information you choose to send is received through our email provider and used to respond to your request. Support correspondence is retained as needed to handle that request; you can ask us to delete it. Please avoid sending private images or other sensitive information unless needed for your question.
Children’s privacy
The app does not require personal information from children or provide accounts, advertising, or social-sharing feeds. References and drawings remain local unless the user chooses to export or share them.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s privacy practices change, this policy will be updated with a new revision date. Features that require different data handling will be described here before they are introduced.
