# Sheet 5: no generated image anywhere

Target = authored value plan (plan.json, base {"paper": [1100, 829]}): figure low-right, seen from behind and cut by the right edge, back of the head (no face), drawn-up knees lighter, one black under the knees, upper left open, a light ground band.

- A: 1725 strokes, Kollwitz charcoal, restraint 0.5. The plan is rendered faithfully as masses. Read: a blocky figure from behind; head a dark disc on a rectangular back.
- Critic: VCLI-G 2.73, SCI 2.73, route OMEGA; black_area 0.016 (solidity 0.86); white_area 0.74.
- propose.py: black rule did not fire (a black exists). One ruled edge found: the bottom of the black (179 px). No rule addresses the shapes' form.
- P: break-edge on the bottom of the black, loss 0.6901 -> 0.0064, 21 actions. The pushes read as light scratches under the black.
- compose.py fix made during this sheet: `ragged` noise leaked faint specks outside a shape; now limited to near the shape.

## Round trip with ChatGPT (gpt/)
- gpt1.png: Russell's ChatGPT refinement. Prompt (verbatim): "Refine this image with the VTL style, keeping overall look and feel, but seeking additional consistency in mark making, enhance mood and add loose mark making. You can invent."
- H1.png: Hands (kollwitz-charcoal, restraint 0.5, seed 7) redraws gpt1 as its target. gpt_vs_H1.png side by side.
- Critic (both): route OMEGA.
- black_area: A 0.0161 -> gpt1 0.0297 -> H1 0.0134. hard edges: 0.091 -> 0.349 -> 0.351. midtone share: 0.147 -> 0.100 -> 0.108.
- In gpt1 the black under the knees became a black cat; the light knees mass became a loose open form under the hand; the figure gained a face in three-quarter view (looking down), a robe, and a dark chair-back at the right edge.

Order: critic reads gpt1 (passes/CRITIQUE.md), artist executes the handoff with the tools, Hands draws, critic re-reads.
- G: target = gpt1 with the cat region squinted (blur 9, 2 values) and the floor lightened; Hands 3779 strokes. The squint kept the silhouette (ears, legs, tail): still a cat. Floor went to paper.
- H: eraser: face taken back (head reads as hair and turn); legs, ears, tail lifted; charcoal ghosts of the legs remain.
- I: one-black on the core: a black bar over ghost legs.
- J: swallow-legs (connect-mass, width 46) + break-edge on the top: the dark is no longer an animal; two bands with a pale seam.
- K: close-seam: one mass.
Measured against the handoff's own predictions (gpt1 -> K): black_area 0.0297 -> 0.0177 (predicted >= 0.02: not met); black solidity 0.63 -> 0.49 (predicted up: not met); focus shift at 64px 0.74 -> 0.80 (predicted down: not met). dx +0.226 -> +0.246; xp 0.411 -> 0.362. Route OMEGA throughout.
